About The Food Program
Child Care Food Programs:
Ensure all children enrolled in child care homes have access to high-quality nutritious meals!
For many children, the meals and snacks served within the child care setting are their best source of nutrition and a great opportunity for them to learn healthy eating habits. Nutritious meals aid children's cognitive and physical development and contribute to school readiness.

Who can participate?
All licensed child care providers may participate in CACFP.
To participate, providers must:
· Serve meals that qualify for reimbursement (follow the meal pattern requirements)
· Complete claim forms daily that track the number of children in attendance and meals served
· Submit the monthly records (claim) to sponsor within 50 days after the end of the month
Child care providers are supported by one of the approved sponsors in their state. In addition to program monitoring, sponsors educate and train providers on the program and its requirements, provide the necessary materials for successful program participation, and offer free training at least once a year.

Does it pay to be on the Food Program?
Once again the rumors are circulating that you have to pay more in taxes when you are on the food program and it costs more to be in the food program than to not be on it. While you do have to pay taxes on the food program reimbursement, you ultimately put more money in your pocket than if you were not on the food program. Tom Copeland, the nation's leading expert on family child care business issues since 1981, works very closely with providers across the country. He has put information together refuting this misconception. If you still have questions, you can contact Tom via email: tomcopeland@live.com
